Design

In order to obtain a Design Right in Japan, an applicant is required to file drawings illustrating the front and rear, right and left sides, top and bottom and perspective views of the article. The drawings are normally without shading but those with shadings like the US Design Patent are also acceptable. When a design application is filed at the Japan Patent Office, digital data is required. You could either provide us with hard copy drawings of the article or digital image data. We will convert your hard copy drawings into digital data.

There are two types of design application: partial design application, in which part of the article is the subject matter, and entire design application, in which the entire article is the subject matter. For the partial design, the portions except for the subject matter needs to be indicated with a dotted line.
